Hesden Lee Saffron WaldenWe were approached by Stagg Architects (SA) in the middle of 2015, to see if we would be interested in tendering a job at Saffron Walden, we had worked with them on a similar sized project.

We subsequently secured the contract with Mr and Mrs Mannion along with Stagg architects, and started work on this 6-bedroom house in January 2016.

The work consisted of demolition of the majority of the original dwelling, for planning reasons it could not be a complete demolition and new build.

The design from the outset looked to be a very exciting. The property has a very contemporary look, lots of straight lines and lots of glass, and a open plan format for the everyday areas. The external façade consists of 10mm Polymer render and 25mm Siberian Larch.

Internally the design follows the same clean straight line look, with the feature of the house being a lovely semi floating Oak staircase which runs through the centre of the open spaced hallway, with the mixture of engineered Oak flooring and polished concrete flooring throughout, which creates the warm homely feel.

A very key feature to the house is the curved walled oak clad wine room adjacent to the main open planned living area, a little self-indulgence by the client.
